Backpack releases a new app that puts stocks, crypto, perps and its wallet in one account

A new app, announced with a video

Backpack, the exchange that has spent this year adding tokenized US stocks and equity collateral, introduced a new version of its mobile app on its official X account on 28 October 2026. The post carried only the line "Feel modern finance" and a 45-second video. Some 23 minutes later Backpack replied to its own post asking users to download the latest app from backpack.exchange.

That is the full announcement. Backpack did not publish release notes, a version number or a list of changes, and we found no blog or help article about the new app when we checked on 29 October.

What the launch video shows

The video walks through the main screens. The home screen shows the account balance with deposit and withdraw buttons, a banner for Backpack's invite programme and a list of favourite stocks. The Explore screen has tabs for crypto, stocks, perps and ETFs and opens with an overview of SPY, QQQ and Bitcoin, followed by rows of individual stocks and perpetual futures.

A portfolio screen groups holdings into cash, crypto and stocks and shows margin, lending and borrowing figures. A switch at the top moves between the exchange account, which can hold several sub-accounts, and the self-custody Backpack Wallet with send, receive and swap. The balances in the video are demo figures.

How Backpack describes the product

Backpack's website now leads with the same "modern finance" line and describes crypto, US stocks and dollars in one account. It lists perps on crypto and equities with up to 75x leverage, variable yield of up to 6.8% on USD balances that Backpack says is not guaranteed, and US stocks and ETFs offered by Backpack Securities in eligible jurisdictions only. These are general product claims on the site, not a list of what changed in this release.

Our take

The video reads as a redesign that pulls Backpack's exchange, brokerage and wallet into a single app, in line with the company's push into stocks this year. Without release notes it is impossible to say which screens are genuinely new and which were rearranged. Existing users can update through their app store; anyone new should check whether stocks are offered in their country, and remember that leveraged perps can liquidate the whole position.
