What Backpack announced

Backpack said on 29 October 2026 that it has formed a strategic partnership with SK Securities Co., Ltd., a publicly listed Korean securities firm that trades on the Korea Exchange under the code 001510. The aim is to bring Korean stock trading to eligible investors through the Backpack app.

Backpack's own blog post narrows that down: the service is meant for eligible non-resident foreign investors, which means people outside Korea who want to buy Korean-listed shares. The official photo attached to Backpack's X post shows a signing ceremony under a banner for an SK Securities and Backpack Securities strategic partnership MOU, dated 22 October 2026. A memorandum of understanding is a starting point, and Backpack has not given a date for when Korean stocks will appear in the app.

Who does what

The two firms split the work along familiar lines. SK Securities contributes underwriting, issuance and securities distribution, the parts of the chain that a licensed local broker is needed for. Backpack contributes its blockchain infrastructure, digital asset custody and access to its global user base.

Backpack says the companies will cooperate across the full lifecycle of these assets, from structuring and issuance to custody and distribution to international investors, all subject to applicable laws and regulations. The initial focus is Korean-listed equities, and the companies describe the deal as a foundation for broader work across traditional and tokenized markets.

How it fits Backpack's stock push

This is the latest step in Backpack's move from a crypto exchange towards what it calls a single globally regulated financial marketplace. The X post says the partnership builds on Backpack's existing US securities platform and lays the groundwork for tokenized securities and real-world assets. Backpack says it serves users from more than 150 countries and regions and has handled more than $450 billion in trading volume.

Today, stock trading on Backpack runs through Backpack Securities, and its support pages set clear limits. It is not available in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates or Japan, and it is not offered on Backpack EU. Users elsewhere need a verified Backpack account in a supported region and must accept a one-time user agreement before their first stock trade. Backpack has not said whether Korean shares will follow exactly the same country list, so treat those rules as the current baseline rather than a promise.

Our take

Korean equities have been hard for many foreign retail investors to reach directly, so a route through an app many crypto traders already use is genuinely interesting. Earlier this autumn Backpack already offered indirect exposure through a tokenized South Korea ETF; a partnership with a local broker points at direct access to individual Korean-listed companies instead.

Until Backpack publishes a launch date, fees, trading hours and the list of eligible countries, nothing changes for users. Readers in Europe should note that Backpack EU does not offer Backpack Securities at all today. If you want to be ready, the Backpack code in the top box applies to the exchange account itself; it is a general sign-up offer and is not tied to Korean stocks, and the OKX code at the end is a separate trading-fee offer.
