What changed on Lighter
Lighter announced on its official X account on 23 October 2026 that ether.fi's weETH can now be used as collateral to trade perpetuals on the exchange. weETH is ether.fi's liquid restaking token for ETH, so holders can keep that position and still use it to back trades.
This runs through Lighter's Multi-Asset Margin feature. Its docs say users deposit a supported asset into their margin balance, and the asset's value, cut by a haircut, counts toward the account's total margin. That lets a trader open perpetual positions without first converting the token to USDC. The feature only works on accounts with a Unified Trading Account enabled.
How much margin weETH gives you
Lighter sets weETH's loan-to-value at 70%. In plain terms, 1 weETH worth $3,000 adds $2,100 of buying power to the account. USDC, the base collateral, still counts at 100%.
There are also caps. One account can post up to 800 weETH as margin, and the limit across all Lighter users is 1,000 weETH, so the pool can fill up. Lighter publishes the live parameters through its assetDetails API, and they can change.
What happens if the trade goes wrong
Lighter checks the whole account's health in one place. For that check, weETH counts at its 85% liquidation threshold. If the account drops below its maintenance margin, the docs say, Lighter can liquidate perpetual positions and the weETH itself in the same process, selling the collateral through the spot order book.
When weETH is sold this way, Lighter can charge a liquidation fee of up to 2%. Its 95% liquidation factor sets the floor: the user gets at least 95% of the token's index price for each unit sold. That means a falling ETH price hits a weETH-backed account twice, through the position and through the collateral.
