The announcement is about access to an existing fund

Backpack announced a Solana version of SQQQ on 25 September. The underlying product is ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ, a fund with a daily leveraged inverse objective. Understanding that objective is more consequential than knowing which wallet displays the token.

An inverse investment aims to move in the opposite direction to its reference market. Leverage increases the size of the targeted daily move. These ideas can sound simple in isolation, but combining them over several days creates results that are easy to misread. The examples below separate the fund’s intended behavior from the additional question of how its token is traded.

What “daily minus three times” means

ProShares states that SQQQ seeks, before fees and expenses, negative three times the Nasdaq-100’s daily performance. The objective is not guaranteed. The issuer explicitly warns that longer holding periods can produce materially different outcomes.

Start with a hypothetical index at 100 and an investment worth $100. If the index falls 2% in one day, it ends at 98. Perfect achievement of a minus-three-times daily target would produce a 6% gain for the investment, taking it to $106 before costs. If the index instead rises 2%, the corresponding target is a 6% loss, leaving $94. These are simplified target calculations, not live fund returns.

Why a two-day result can surprise you

Now consider a different, deliberately exaggerated path. An index starts at 100, gains 10% to reach 110, then falls approximately 9.09% to return to 100. Its two-day change is zero. A hypothetical investment meeting the inverse three-times daily target starts at $100, loses 30% on the first day and finishes that day at $70.

On the second day, its target gain is approximately 27.27%, applied to the new $70 balance. That adds roughly $19.09, leaving $89.09. The index has returned to its starting point, but the investment has lost about $10.91. Multiplying the index’s final zero return by negative three would miss the entire effect.

This calculation isolates compounding: each day’s percentage acts on the balance left by the previous day. It ignores fees, imperfect tracking and trading prices. Its purpose is to explain the daily reset, not to estimate what SQQQ will do next or recommend a holding period.

What changes when the fund share becomes a token

The listing describes one token redeemable for one underlying SQQQ share through Backpack Securities. A withdrawal creates the token on Solana, while a supported deposit restores the brokerage holding. Onchain trading is described as available 24/7.

Backpack distinguishes the token’s claim on an asset-holding vehicle from the brokerage account’s security entitlement. The daily target belongs to the fund, not to a promise that every token trade will execute at an identical price. A round-the-clock venue and a daily investment objective refer to different clocks. Our reading is that tokenization changes the route to the exposure; it does not remove the compounding illustrated above.

Who can use the brokerage route, and what it costs

Brokerage access excludes the US, UK, UAE, Japan and Backpack EU. A verified account, supported region and initial agreement remain necessary.

Stock spot has no separate Backpack commission or platform fee; session availability still varies by security. Converting out has an estimated $0.50 withdrawal charge in the security; depositing has no Backpack charge, with wallet network costs still possible.

ProShares showed gross annual expenses of 0.99% and net expenses of 0.95%, with its contractual waiver running through 30 September 2026. Those are fund-level figures, not conversion charges. A reader returning after that date should recheck the fund page rather than assume the waiver continues.

Read the position as a sequence, not a slogan

A useful record for this product separates three things: how much was paid, what happened to the underlying exposure during each holding day, and what was received when the position was reduced or sold. Merely noting that a market finished the week lower would leave out the path taken along the way.

The announcement adds an access route. It does not establish that the route is suitable for someone seeking a simple long-term technology investment. The comparison cases make that distinction visible: a one-day objective can be explained with one multiplication, whereas several days require following the changing balance. That is the central point to understand before interpreting any potential gain or loss.

Follow the daily reset through three cases

Select a case to highlight it; all explanations stay visible.

  • Index down 2%

    One-day target

    Idealized target: $100 × 1.06 = $106 before costs.

  • Index up 2%

    The direction reverses

    Idealized target: $100 × 0.94 = $94 before costs.

  • Index back to start

    The path still matters

For +10% then −9.09% in the index, the illustrated daily-target investment ends near $89.09. This is arithmetic, not a forecast.

Illustrative explanations, not live prices, eligibility checks or return forecasts. [1] [2]

WHAT TO REMEMBER
  • SQQQ’s inverse three-times objective is daily.
  • Compounding can change the result over several days.
