What Base announced
Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network incubated by Coinbase, said on its official X account on 27 October 2026 that Season 2 of its Builder Grant Program is live. The headline post promises a $5,000 grant for building on Base, and the application form linked in the thread describes it as up to $5,000 in early seed capital together with go-to-market and product support.
The announcement comes a day after Base opened its separate Trencher Grant Program for meme-community leaders and creators. The Builder program is aimed at product teams instead.
How Season 1 went
Base says 387 projects applied in the first season and six were backed: Yodl, VaultLeap, Minisend, Basemate, ClawBank and Ratehopper. Teams that were turned down are invited to apply again, this time pointing to what they have shipped since, such as users, volume and launches. Base also asked Season 1 grantees to tag projects they would vouch for.
Who the form is looking for
The application form names six focus areas: prediction markets, token launchpads, DeFi 2.0 (lending, borrowing, looping, yield generation, vaults and tokenized equities), agents (commerce, x402 implementations and autonomous trading), products built around new asset creation, and consumer apps focused on transaction growth.
It also sets three conditions. Applicants should be building exclusively on Base right now, be past the idea stage with a live product that people are using, and need product, go-to-market and launch help more than they need capital. The form records the applicant's email, and Base says it will follow up with next steps after reviewing each application.
Base did not publish a deadline, the number of Season 2 grants or eligible countries, so those details are unknown.
What it means for builders
With roughly one grant for every 65 applicants in Season 1, the bar is a working product with real usage, not a pitch. Teams that applied last time have a clear brief: show the numbers. Anyone testing on Base will also want a Base-compatible wallet, and the Base app and offer are linked on this page.
