Earnings week, around the clock
Base opened the week of 20 October with a short pitch: “It's earnings season,” followed by the line that tokenized stocks trade 24/7 on Base. The graphic attached to the post, branded with the Tokenized Stocks label and the Coinbase and Base logos, listed the companies “reporting this week”: Netflix and SpaceX on 20 October, Tesla and Meta on 21 October, and Nokia and Bloom Energy on 22 October, each shown with a ticker ending in a lower-case “c”.
The idea behind the timing is simple. Listed US companies usually publish quarterly results outside the regular trading session, so ordinary shareholders often have to wait for extended hours or the next open to react. Base is telling readers that the onchain versions of these shares do not have that gap. The small print on the same graphic says Coinbase Tokenized Stocks are not available to persons in the US and other restricted jurisdictions.
Tesla and Meta after the bell
Base followed up on 21 October. It said Tesla and Meta had reported their third-quarter earnings after the market closed that day and posted two Base contract addresses, both starting with 0xb2000000, that it said trade 24/7. Those addresses match the TSLAc (Tesla) and METAc (Meta) entries on Base's official stocks page. The attached graphic simply reads “Reporting today” above the two tickers, with a footnote that tokenized stocks are only available in eligible jurisdictions and that this is subject to change.
Base's stocks page spells out what “24/7” means: the tokens can be traded at any hour of any day, including weekends and US market holidays. Neither post says anything about prices, trading volumes or how the tokens moved after the results, so we do not report any. A token trading while the stock exchange is shut is priced by the buyers and sellers active at that moment, so it can differ from where the shares later open; check the quote and the depth of the market in your wallet before trading on news.
What a Coinbase tokenized stock is
According to Base, Coinbase Tokenized Stocks are individual US company shares brought onchain. Coinbase issues one token for each share it holds, and each token is described as a beneficial claim on a real share kept in regulated, bankruptcy-remote custody separate from Coinbase. The tokens use a standard called B20 on Base and sit in a self-custodial wallet, so no brokerage account is needed to hold them.
The same page lists the apps where the tokens can be used. Coinbase Wallet is among them, alongside Aerodrome for trading liquidity and Aave for lending and borrowing against tokenized stock positions. We covered that Aave market, which lets eligible investors borrow USDC against seven of these tokens, in an earlier story.
Check the list and your eligibility first
The tokens are offered under Regulation S and only in eligible jurisdictions outside the US. Base does not publish a country list on the page and says availability, features and rights vary by product, jurisdiction and venue, so whether you can buy depends on where you live and on the app you use.
When we checked on 25 October, the page listed ten tokens: NVIDIA, Meta, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft, Strategy, SanDisk, SpaceX and Tesla. Netflix, Nokia and Bloom Energy, which appeared in the 20 October earnings graphic, were not on that list. Base says that if a token is not on its list, Coinbase did not issue it, and it asks buyers to match the contract address before buying. Copying addresses from the official page rather than from a search result or reply is the safest way to avoid look-alike tokens.
