What changed
Tuyo, a self-custodial money app built on Base, lets its card spend USDC directly from an Earn strategy instead of from a separate spending balance.
Who it affects
People who hold USDC and want one balance that both earns and pays, and Tuyo users deciding how their card should draw funds.
When
Base published the Tuyo customer story on 15 October 2026 and its X thread on 16 October 2026; Base gives no end date.

What Base announced

On 16 October 2026 Base posted a short thread titled “One account for spending and earning”. It says that checking and savings accounts have historically been separate, one for spending and one for saving, and that with Tuyo you can spend USDC directly from an Earn strategy, bringing both into one account.

The thread follows a customer story Base published on its website the day before. Base’s 15 October post describes Tuyo as connecting spending, earning and investing in one self-custodial financial app on Base, and the story says Tuyo’s card and account services run on the network. Base quotes Tuyo co-founder Jorge Izquierdo: “The concept of checking and savings accounts has run its course.”

How spending from an Earn strategy works

According to Base’s story, Tuyo customers choose how their money earns, and the Tuyo Card draws from that balance when they pay. Money held in an Earn strategy keeps earning until it is actually spent, rather than having to be moved into a spending account first. Customers who would rather keep the two apart can restrict card spending to USDC held outside their strategies.

In practice that is a choice between convenience and a buffer. Spending straight from a strategy means nothing sits idle, but every card payment reduces the earning balance. Limiting the card to USDC outside strategies works more like a classic current account with a savings pot next to it, and makes it harder for one large purchase to dip into money you meant to keep.

Why Tuyo picked Base, and the caveats

Base says Tuyo chose the network for low-cost transactions and stablecoin support, and for account features that let the app work without asking users to approve repeated wallet prompts.

The story carries clear limits. Base says Tuyo is an independent third party, not a bank and not affiliated with Coinbase; funds are not FDIC-insured; returns are variable, not guaranteed and may be lower or even negative; and availability is subject to eligibility and geographic restrictions. Figures in the story are reported by Tuyo. Base does not name which countries are supported or what a strategy currently pays, so check both in the Tuyo app before moving money.

Holding USDC on Base

Tuyo is one app among many that use USDC on Base. For holding USDC on the network yourself, the Base app at base.app is Coinbase’s self-custody wallet and connects directly to Base, and Phantom also supports Base alongside Solana. With either, make sure Base is selected as the network before you send or receive USDC, because funds sent on the wrong network can be hard or impossible to recover.
