What Moonshot changed
Moonshot has switched off Binance as a deposit route. In a post on its official X account at 21:46 UTC on 29 October 2026 (22:46 in Amsterdam), Moonshot said Binance had confirmed a security incident and paused withdrawals, and that it had temporarily disabled Binance deposits on Moonshot as a precaution so that no one gets stuck with a transfer that cannot complete.
Moonshot said your Moonshot funds are unaffected and that all other deposit methods are live, so cards and the other funding options in the app keep working. It also told users to stay vigilant and beware of scams, and said more updates will follow.
What Binance has said so far
Binance first posted at 21:29 UTC (22:29 in Amsterdam) that its teams were actively investigating reports of a potential security issue and that user funds are completely safe. At 22:15 UTC it added that its team is conducting security checks and that withdrawals will resume as soon as the security issue is fully resolved.
At 23:22 UTC Binance said the current verified total frozen is $2.54 billion, and that the figure may rise as it works with law enforcement, issuers, blockchain intelligence firms and industry partners to trace and freeze more assets. In its latest post, at 00:13 UTC on 30 October (01:13 in Amsterdam), Binance said it will cover all losses and that all deposits and withdrawals are temporarily suspended while it runs security checks, freezes funds and works with law enforcement. It said it will publish a full post-mortem once the investigation is complete.
How this connects to the Aave freeze
The incident has already rippled into DeFi. Earlier tonight Aave froze all DAO-operated V3 and V4 markets as a precaution after reports of an incident at a major exchange, while keeping withdrawals and repayments open. Our full story on that move is at exchange.news/news/aave-v3-v4-markets-frozen-precaution, and it is linked under Keep reading below.
Our take
If you use Moonshot, nothing changes for your balance. Fund the app with a card or another deposit method until Moonshot turns the Binance route back on, and do not try to push a transfer from Binance in the meantime. Incidents like this attract fake support accounts and look-alike sites, so follow only the official Moonshot and Binance accounts, ignore anyone who messages you first, and never share a recovery phrase or sign a transaction because someone says it will protect your funds.
