CoinStats launches a portfolio-aware research beta

CoinStats introduced its AI Agent as a crypto research assistant with market, on-chain, social and portfolio inputs. The announcement describes Fast, Deep Research and Backtesting modes and beta access for Premium and Degen users. These are the provider’s advertised capabilities. The release does not establish that every generated answer is correct or that an AI-generated portfolio suggestion will improve returns.

[1]

Start with a question that can be checked

A useful research prompt identifies an asset or account, a time period and the kind of evidence needed. “Why is my portfolio bad?” is hard to evaluate because it leaves all three unclear. An illustrative alternative is: “Which holdings contributed most to the change in value during this period, and which transactions explain the difference?”

That question produces a result the reader can compare with their own records. It also separates observation from explanation. A change in a holding’s price is an observation; a claim about why it happened needs evidence. Several events occurring at the same time do not, by themselves, establish which one caused the move.

The example is a suggested way to use a research tool, not a claim about a particular response returned by CoinStats. The reader should be able to identify the source and date behind a significant factual statement before relying on it.

An illustrative research session

Imagine that Amira notices a sharp change in one position. She asks for a dated list of official announcements, the change in her holding over a defined interval and any explanation the assistant can support. A useful answer would make it possible to distinguish the announcement itself from the assistant’s interpretation of its significance.

Amira can then open the cited announcement and compare its scope with the claim in the answer. Does it concern the same network, product and region? Is the date the publication date or the date a feature becomes available? Does it describe something already launched or a future plan? These checks are concrete and often more valuable than asking the model to restate its confidence.

If the answer cannot support an explanation, that is a useful limit to retain. The appropriate conclusion may be that several possible contributors exist, not that one narrative has been proven. This is an editorial verification exercise, not a benchmark of the beta’s accuracy.

Read a backtest as a conditional experiment

For a fictional strategy test, suppose a rule buys 100 units of currency worth of an asset every week for ten weeks. The scheduled contributions total 1,000 before costs. To interpret the result, the reader needs the purchase dates, assumed prices, fees and treatment of any missing data. A single final value hides all of those assumptions.

Changing the start date can change the result, so a useful comparison tests more than one period. It should also identify a simple baseline, such as the same contributions under another clearly defined rule. Otherwise the reader may be impressed by an outcome without knowing whether the tested strategy added anything.

These are proposed evaluation steps, not a claim that CoinStats automatically includes every assumption in every response. Historical arithmetic cannot establish what a strategy will earn in the future. Its value is in exposing how a rule would have behaved under the particular data and conditions supplied.

Keep the evidence and the decision separate

Our reading is that a research assistant can be useful when it reduces the time spent assembling information while leaving the trail visible. The reader still needs to decide whether the information is relevant, current and complete enough for the decision at hand. An attractive chart does not resolve a missing data source.

A practical habit is to save the question, the dates of the inputs and the key sources alongside any conclusion. If the market or product changes later, that record shows why the earlier interpretation was reasonable or where it was incomplete. It also makes it easier to compare a revised answer without relying on memory.

The release’s most useful promise is help organising a complicated research task. Judge it by whether the output makes the question clearer and the evidence easier to inspect. That is a more meaningful standard for the beta than treating fluent language, a confident recommendation or the provider’s own comparison with other AI systems as independent proof of superior investment judgement.
