Records to share, information to analyze

ether.fi announced two additions to its web app on 15 October: downloadable account documents and AI Connections, which lets compatible assistants read approved account information. Together they address a familiar problem for account holders: turning a history of payments into something useful outside the transaction list. A document supplies a record; an assistant can help interpret activity.

The documents release covers personal and business accounts. It adds account statements, card statements and ownership letters alongside transaction exports, without a document fee. The company says support in its iOS and Android apps will follow; it gives no firm date. These announcements do not establish availability in additional countries.

To prepare a document, open Transaction history in the web app and select Export. Choose the document, dates and included details, then request a download or delivery by email. An ownership letter requires completed verification. Its purpose is to identify the account holder, while a statement describes account activity.

What the personal statement actually contains

The personal-account guide describes balances in US dollars, with individual asset quantities also shown. The net balance subtracts borrowing from assets. Transaction values use prices at the time of the transaction, while changes in the value of holdings appear separately. That distinction helps explain why a balance can move without a corresponding payment.

Custom statement periods may cover up to 184 days and must end by yesterday, using UTC calendar days. Periods longer than 60 days are delivered by email. An account statement can be exported as CSV only for a full month or a custom period of at most 60 days, with transaction history included; the month-to-date option is excluded. Card statements and ownership letters use PDF.

The ownership letter has a document identifier and issue date, but no signature or stamp. ether.fi explicitly leaves acceptance to the receiving institution. Someone requesting evidence for a bank therefore needs to check its requirements; generating the file does not establish that the bank will accept it.

Business records depend on the team role

For businesses, the help guide gives Admins and Bookkeepers access to account documents. Assistants and Employees can export their own transactions instead. A finance team can select an individual card when generating a card statement, including past activity on cards that have been deleted. Transaction exports can also be filtered for missing receipts, making the export useful for reconciliation rather than simply reproducing every payment.

An optional balance-history section reports the average and lowest balance over the preceding 90 days. Selecting it requires a PDF delivered by email. Eligible team members can separately opt into monthly account statements, starting the following month and arriving around the third day. Those automatic statements include pending transactions but omit bank details, the crypto address and the optional balance history. Business verification is required for an ownership letter.

What a read-only assistant connection means

AI Connections uses Model Context Protocol, or MCP, a standard through which assistants connect to external information and tools. ether.fi says compatible assistants, including Claude and ChatGPT, can use its server to analyze approved account data. Read-only describes the authority of that connection: it cannot move funds, borrow, repay or change cards, and it does not reveal full card credentials.

There is no ether.fi connection fee. The announcement does not establish the price or availability of a compatible assistant subscription. Its illustrated spending reports are examples, not independently checked account results. The feature is available through the web app, with mobile support still forthcoming.

Reading permission still shares information

The personal-account guide separates transactions, cards and balances into permissions that begin switched off. Authorization happens on ether.fi with a passkey. Each connection covers one account and lasts 90 days; use does not extend it. Disconnecting blocks the next request.

Read-only access does not mean the information stays inside ether.fi. Approved data goes to the assistant provider and may enter conversations. Storage, retention and possible training use depend on that provider, the plan and privacy settings. Disconnecting does not automatically delete information already shared. Granting access to the vault address also discloses a permanent public identifier whose on-chain activity remains observable.

ether.fi says assistant-generated totals are not independently calculated or verified by it. Important results need comparison with the account. A downloadable record and an AI interpretation serve different tasks, even when they start with the same transactions.
