A targeted eBay offer with a $50 ceiling

Plasma One announced 10% cashback on qualifying eBay purchases from 14 September 2026 at 00:00 UTC through 28 September at 23:59:59 UTC, capped at $50 per person across their cards. New users can qualify at any tier; existing users need Core or Platinum. The offer must appear in the app, and country restrictions apply. No promotional code is needed. The rate replaces ordinary cashback on the purchase rather than adding to it.

Authorization, review and payment are separate stages

The supplemental terms require payment through eBay checkout, authorization during the offer and subsequent settlement. Gift cards and cash equivalents are excluded. A 45-day hold starts at capture of the transaction; review can take longer. Pending rewards are not earned money. Payment is normally restricted spend credit, though the terms reserve a change to XPL. Refunds can reduce or reverse rewards. The displayed account offer controls individual parameters, and early termination is possible. This is Plasma’s promotion, not an eBay-sponsored discount.

Calculate the cap before choosing a basket

Take an invented qualifying purchase of $320. Ten percent is $32, leaving $18 below the advertised ceiling. If the same person then makes another qualifying purchase of $250, the uncapped calculation would add $25. Under the stated cap, only $18 of that second amount fits, bringing the total to $50. This example assumes both purchases qualify and no other purchase has already used the allowance.

A single invented $800 purchase gives an uncapped result of $80. The ceiling reduces the campaign amount to $50, equivalent to 6.25% of that particular purchase price. The advertised percentage and the effective percentage on a large basket therefore need not match. That is ordinary cap arithmetic, not a different advertised rate.

These calculations are useful for understanding a purchase someone already intended to make. They do not establish a reason to add items to a basket. If a buyer adds an unnecessary $100 item merely to increase a reward, the extra purchase still creates a cost much larger than the corresponding percentage benefit.

A delayed reward does not fund the checkout

Imagine a buyer with a planned $320 purchase and exactly $300 available for it. An expected $32 reward later would not solve the immediate $20 funding gap. The checkout and the later reward are different cash-flow events. A purchase budget should therefore stand on its own before any anticipated award is counted.

For a second example, suppose a transaction settles on a fictional date several days after an order was placed. Counting a hold from the order date would start the clock too early. The useful record is the payment’s actual processing history, followed by the reward status. Delivery tracking answers where the goods are; it does not necessarily answer where the payment or reward is in its own process.

An order confirmation, a pending payment and a completed reward should consequently occupy different lines in a buyer’s record. That separation makes it easier to explain a discrepancy without assuming a missing reward is simply late. It also prevents a pending promotional entry from being counted as an amount already available to spend.

Compare the whole purchase, including the item itself

Suppose the item costs $320 on one marketplace and an otherwise comparable offer costs $295 elsewhere. A hypothetical $32 reward makes the first option look like $288 after eventual benefit, a $7 difference under those assumptions. Add an invented $12 shipping difference and that apparent advantage reverses. The calculation needs the full purchase, not just the promotional percentage.

The examples deliberately assume comparable items. In real shopping, condition, delivery and the seller’s return terms may make that assumption inappropriate. A lower calculated net cost cannot establish that two listings describe the same product or the same purchase experience.

A later return also changes the comparison. If a buyer no longer keeps the item, the original purchase calculation should be revisited instead of preserving the reward as if nothing changed. The article’s calculator is a way to understand the announced ceiling. It does not inspect an account offer, recognize a merchant descriptor or confirm that a transaction will pass Plasma’s review.

Illustrate the announced 10% rate with a $50 promotional cap, using eligible spending only.

Illustrative examples: $320 × 10% = $32. This assumes no earlier promotional accrual and full transaction eligibility. The result is an illustration, not a confirmed reward. 10% of $800 is $80, but the promotional cap is $50. Ordinary cashback treatment after the cap is outside this example; the promotion is not $80 off at checkout.

Assumes full transaction eligibility. This illustrates promotional cashback before review, not a checkout discount or guaranteed reward. Ordinary cashback after the cap is outside this calculation; your displayed offer governs. [1] [2]
