A temporary reward on Apple purchases
Plasma announced a 10% reward for Plasma One Platinum cardholders on 16 October, promoting it around iPhone Duo preorders. The offer gives eligible members a higher reward on planned Apple spending, but the purchase and the eventual reward remain separate transactions.
Its terms cover qualifying Apple retail purchases beyond the named phone. The campaign runs from 16 October at 12:00 UTC through 29 October at 23:59:59 UTC, unless it ends early. Plasma offers it independently; Apple does not sponsor it.
Check the account before paying
Plasma's campaign guide requires the offer to appear in the app. Lite and Core members must upgrade before buying. New users need an account, identity verification, Platinum and funds. No separate promotional code or opt-in is required. Geographic restrictions still apply.
The total promotional reward is capped at $200 per person across all cards on the account. The 10% rate replaces ordinary cashback on the same spending, and the promotional cap is separate from the monthly tier cap. Ordinary rules apply after the boost is exhausted.
Cashback is calculated in dollars but paid in XPL, Plasma's crypto token, at the payout conversion rate. A 45-day hold starts when the payment settles, meaning the merchant completes collection. Review can extend the wait. Refunds and reversals can remove the reward. Customers pay the full checkout price.
The payment route and timing matter
Qualifying channels include apple.com, the Apple Store app and Apple-operated shops. Carriers, resellers and marketplaces are excluded, as are App Store and Apple services charges, gift cards and amounts funded with trade-in credit. Plasma judges merchant data; buying an Apple product alone does not establish eligibility.
Authorization must fall inside the campaign while Platinum is active. Authorization is approval of the card payment; settlement follows. A preorder may settle after the deadline, but a later replacement authorization is subject to Plasma's decision. The offer is unavailable in some Plasma One markets, and an undisclosed overall campaign budget can trigger early closure.
Platinum is a longer commitment
The current Platinum product page advertises access by locking 100,000 XPL for 12 months. That is a token requirement, not a fixed dollar subscription price. Someone considering an upgrade specifically for this purchase therefore faces a different decision from someone who already holds the tier: the commitment extends well beyond the Apple campaign.
The Rewards Addendum says locked XPL cannot be released early, transferred or redeemed during the lock. It produces no yield from locking alone. The token can lose value, and the vault carries smart-contract risk. The reward should not be treated as protection against those losses. Received reward tokens can also change in value.
The product page also advertises ordinary cashback bands: 4% on the first $3,000 of monthly spending, then 3%, 2% and 1% on subsequent bands. The advertised 10% is consequently a temporary promotional rate. Comparing only that number with zero would ignore the ordinary rewards a qualifying Platinum purchase might otherwise earn. The next two bands cover the next $7,000 and $5,000 respectively, before remaining spending enters the final band.
Reading the cap without treating it as profit
For a simple hypothetical comparison, assume $1,000 of spending qualifies in full and would otherwise sit entirely in the advertised 4% band. Ten percent gives a $100 promotional accrual; four percent gives $40. The difference is $60, rather than $100 of additional benefit. This calculation compares rates only and assumes all conditions are satisfied.
At $2,000, the same arithmetic reaches $200, the promotional maximum. Splitting that amount into two equal purchases gives $100 plus $100, not two separate $200 allowances. These examples do not value the locked tokens, predict XPL's future price or establish eligibility. They explain why a headline rate, an account cap and an upgrade commitment must be considered together.
