What changed
Plasma announced on 28 October that Plasma One now accepts deposits of ETH, HYPE and other crypto, and that the feature is live. The launch video shows a list of assets marked 'Arrives as USD', with USDT, USDC, WBTC, ETH, HYPE and BNB at the top and more behind a 'View all' button.
The key detail is in the phrase 'arrives as USD'. Plasma's help center says supported crypto is converted to dollars automatically and usually reaches the Cash balance within a few minutes. You do not keep the ETH or HYPE in the app: you spend the dollar amount it was converted into.
How a deposit works
In the app, tap Add money, then Receive crypto, and choose the asset on the Select crypto screen. The video shows the next screen for ETH: a receiving address and QR code on the Ethereum network, with a note that it arrives as USD. Plasma also shows options to send from a wallet or from an exchange such as Coinbase or Kraken.
Plasma warns that you should only send a supported asset on a supported network, so check that the network on the receive screen matches the one you send from.
What it costs
Crypto deposits are not free. Plasma's fee page lists up to four parts, depending on the asset: a network fee, a bridge fee, a swap fee (only when you deposit something other than USDT) and a Plasma fee of 0.15% to 0.75%. The app shows the full breakdown before you send.
The fees are the same on Lite, Core and Platinum. The wallet or exchange you send from may also charge its own withdrawal fee, which Plasma does not control.
Our take
For people who already hold ETH or HYPE, this removes a step: there is no need to sell on an exchange first and then send stablecoins. The trade-off is that the conversion to dollars happens at deposit, so later price moves no longer apply, and a non-USDT deposit can cost up to 0.75% plus network and swap fees. Check the breakdown on screen before confirming.
