At a glance

What changed
A partnership that connects Coinbase’s stablecoin infrastructure and Base with Thunes’ cross-border payout network.
Who it affects
Businesses paying suppliers, gig workers or remittance customers abroad; their recipients receive money through local rails.
When
Announced at Money20/20 USA in Las Vegas on 19 October 2026.

A two-way deal

Thunes, a Singapore-based cross-border payments network, and Coinbase announced on 19 October that each will use the other’s infrastructure. Coinbase is integrating Thunes’ Direct Global Network for local clearing, alternative payment methods and last-mile payouts to mobile wallets and bank accounts. In the other direction, Coinbase is powering the stablecoin infrastructure behind Thunes.

Base put it in one line on the day: Thunes “is integrating stablecoins across its global payout network on Base.” Coinbase also covered the deal on its own blog.

What the network reaches

According to the release, Thunes reaches more than 140 countries and over 90 currencies. Its network connects to more than 12 billion mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets and bank accounts, plus 15 billion cards, and supports more than 220 payment methods.

The companies name three uses to start with: businesses paying suppliers, platforms paying gig workers, and remittances. Thunes says it will provide real-time last-mile delivery, including to hard-to-reach regions with limited banking infrastructure.

What the companies said

Chloé Mayenobe, Deputy CEO at Thunes, said connecting digital currencies to fiat and local financial systems remains essential for real-world use, and described Thunes as the bridge between traditional finance, mobile wallets and digital assets. Alec Lovett, Head of Infrastructure Products at Coinbase, called last-mile connectivity a key part of unlocking stablecoins. Kyle Rosen, Head of North America at Thunes, said the deal shows how cross-border rails can connect digital assets to traditional finance for US businesses.

What it means for users

Most people will never see the Thunes or Coinbase name in this flow. If an employer, platform or money transfer service uses it, the change shows up as a payout that arrives faster or costs less, possibly funded in USDC on Base. No fees, timelines or recipient countries for the stablecoin route were published.
