What Phantom announced

Phantom, the self-custodial crypto wallet, said on 23 October 2026 that it is beginning to roll out prediction markets to users in the United States, with access expanding over the next few weeks. The markets come through Phantom’s first US integration with Kalshi, a CFTC-registered exchange. In a post on Phantom’s blog, general counsel Kevin Jacobs said the company sought its regulatory relief earlier this year with this product in mind.

That relief came in March, when CFTC staff issued Staff Letter 26-09. Phantom says it confirmed that the wallet would not need to register as an introducing broker to connect users to regulated markets, subject to conditions, making it the first passive software provider to get such relief. Its earlier post on the letter stressed that Phantom never touches customer funds and that the relief does not cover DeFi derivatives or tokenized prediction markets. Phantom adds that the CFTC granted similar industry-wide relief to comparable software providers in September.

Who does what

Phantom stays the interface. A third-party service collects and stores identity information, while Kalshi approves and holds each trading account and executes the trades users submit in Phantom. The blog states plainly that Phantom is not registered with the CFTC and that the markets are offered by KalshiEX LLC.

Before the first trade, users create a new Kalshi account or link an existing one inside the app and complete Kalshi’s identity checks. These can ask for a legal name, address, Social Security number and a US government-issued ID. Linking an existing account does not merge balances: money held on kalshi.com does not appear in Phantom, and the reverse is also true.

How trading works, and what to watch

Markets sit under the Predict tab in the mobile app. Users pick an outcome, choose Yes or No, and pay from their Cash balance or with any token on Solana; trades funded from Cash need no network fee. Positions can be cashed out before a market settles only if there are buyers, so a position showing a profit may still be hard to sell.

The rollout is gradual. When we checked on 24 October 2026, Phantom’s regional availability page still listed prediction markets as unavailable in the US, as well as the UK and Germany, so some US users may not see the feature yet. Users outside the US use Phantom’s separate World prediction markets where they are offered.
